Growing up in Connecticut I remember summers spent with visits to Quassy Amusements. Quassy is on the smaller side when it comes to amusement parks both with the kinds of rides available and actual footprint of the park. Though there is some stuff for older kids and adults there is plenty for the younger tots to do. I don’t remember the water park during my young years but it was something my own tot enjoyed immensely during our visit. From both the splash pad to the small water slides he could have spent all day there. We’ve tried a carousel a couple of times, bounce houses, and some small rides at carnivals last summer and he thought they were great. Luckily a lot of the rides available at Quassy are in the same vein. There is a train ride that goes around a large section of the field which is used for private events which he loved and is much longer than ones at carnivals. He even tried the small roller coaster and enjoyed that. The one I am most surprised about was the large pirate ship. You know what I’m talking about the one that swings and it feels like your stomach is in your throat. He asked a bunch of times to go on so I finally agreed as I had to go on with him and he laughed through the entire thing. I’m not sure at what age I decided that feeling was no longer fun, but I am definitely at that age now.
As far as COVID procedures are concerned, no masks on water rides or in the splash pad, but if walking between the different sections of the water park masks are required, as they are in the amusement park and on all rides. Masks of course can come off for food, so that was one thing that was difficult as people would be eating and drinking as walking through the park, shouting and spreading whatever germs they had everywhere. That made me uneasy. Additionally sadly some people don’t follow the 6 foot rule and were literally bumping me in line while I waited to get food. If you can bump me you certainly aren’t 6 feet away. It’s not necessarily Quassy’s fault, but I think they should give their employees training and autonomy if they see people not following the 6 ft rule to tell them. I really don’t think it should be left up to me as a guest to have that conversation with another guest. I also suggest you bring your own disinfecting wipes and wipe down the surfaces of the tables and rides as I didn’t once see anyone wipe down a table and the rides were not after each rider. Luckily with having the mask on if I missed a surface he wasn’t sticking his fingers on his face right away and I could give him some hand sanitizer. Bring your own hand sanitizer. They do have set ups throughout the park, but they aren’t always in the most convenient of places.
I think it is great that you can come and go to your car. As a parent of a small tot, it’s not always easy to carry a lot on me so having the ability to come and go to my car is a good thing. And if you aren’t going into the water park or going on any rides you really don’t have to pay to enter the park which is nice if your kid wants to go a lot on his own, as far as riding in concerned. However, everyone entering into the water park must pay water park admission. You can buy ride tickets separately so for instance the pirate ship ride he was to small to go on alone so I bought a ticket to go on that. Tickets are bought at the front entrance of the park.
