As we continue dealing with this global pandemic the Lavender Fields of Provence France are out of the question as the E.U. is not accepting Americans. So, this had me searching out another opportunity. I stumbled upon Lavender Pond Farm. Lavender Pond Farm is located in Killingworth, CT. My kiddo and I headed over there one late morning. Sadly, the little train ride around the pond wawa sold out for the day. My toddler was rather upset about this. But with COVID restrictions it was private to one group per train ride. They did a great job with marking off the gift shop with 6 ft squares and you move through square by square as the one in front of you becomes available. The fields were not as I expected. It is a smaller area than I had pictured in my head with clear walking paths between the lavender which I suppose is a good thing, as you don’t want people to trample on your product. There are two ponds. One you can walk around and go over a stone bridge on one side and a covered bridge on the other. The other pond was surrounded by tall tall grass. Of course the kiddo wanted to check out both. Bring bug spray! While you’re at it make sure to have sunscreen as well as there is some shade, but really not much. There’s a cute gazebo that was filled with people taking photos, so try to just catch the gazebo in the background, I think it gives a better picture anyway. My takeaway is get there early if you are looking at getting a train ride, and give yourself an hour – an hour and a half to walk around if not doing the train. As I didn’t go on the train ride I can’t be certain by give yourself another 20 -30 miners for that with the getting on and off, the train ride itself, and cleaning procedures. Before you go make sure you check with them as to when their peak season and shoulder seasons are and if the pandemic is still going on, please follow all local and CDC guidelines.
